Tokyo — The Right Neighbourhoods
Shimokitazawa over Shibuya. Yanaka over Asakusa. Morning Tsukiji before the buses arrive.
Kinosaki Onsen — The Hidden Chapter
7 bathhouses. Walking distance between all of them. The dinner at Nishimuraya: unforgettable.
Kyoto — Temples Without the Queues
Fushimi Inari at 6am. Arashiyama bamboo before 8am. The community-recommended timing was everything.
Hiroshima, Miyajima & Naoshima
The art island no guidebook emphasises enough. Two nights at Benesse House: the most unusual hotel I've ever stayed in.
Osaka — Eat Everything
Shin-Sen-Gumi at 11pm. Namba at midnight. The takoyaki at the standing bar Kei mentioned. Perfect ending.
What made this trip different wasn't the destinations. Every list has Tokyo and Kyoto. It was the version of those places I got — the timing, the specific spots, the hidden streets.
