Local travel guide sharing knowledge
How YourTravelSearches Works

Every great trip starts with
the right local guide.

Your YourTravelSearches itinerary isn't generated by a website. It's built from the first-hand knowledge of local travel guides, destination specialists, and community experts who have been exactly where you want to go — and want your trip to be as good as theirs was.

800+ Local Travel Guides

From long-term expats to local experts — real people sharing what they actually know about a destination, not what's easiest to publish.

Locally Verified, Always Current

Every route reviewed by someone who currently lives in or regularly visits the destination. Quarterly audits remove anything that's no longer accurate.

Personalised For Exactly Who You Are

6 questions about your style, budget, travel dates, and pace — and our specialists match you with the community knowledge that fits exactly your trip.

Why We Exist

The travel industry is full of information.
Almost none of it is honest.

Every travel website shows the same 10 attractions, the same 5 hotel chains, and the same routes — because that's what's profitable to publish, not what's best for you. YourTravelSearches was built to fix that.

What most travel platforms give you

  • Generic "Top 10" lists copied from other generic "Top 10" lists — written by people who may never have visited
  • Sponsored hotel placements and affiliate-driven recommendations that serve the platform's revenue, not your trip
  • Stale content — a blog post from 2018 ranking first on Google, recommending a restaurant that closed two years ago
  • The same itinerary for everyone — a beach lover and a history enthusiast get sent to the same temples and the same bars
  • No timing knowledge — nobody tells you Fushimi Inari at 9am in August is a tourist car park, or that arriving at 6am is transformative

What YourTravelSearches gives you instead

  • First-hand knowledge from local guides who live in or regularly visit your destination — shared because they care, not because they're paid
  • Zero paid placements — every accommodation and activity earns its place through quality alone, verified by real travelers
  • Always current — community members submit updates year-round, and every destination is re-audited quarterly
  • Truly personalised — your travel style, budget, dates, and pace shape a route that only works for exactly who you are
  • Precise timing knowledge — our local guides know which hour, which day, which season makes each place exceptional

"The best travel advice I ever received came from a stranger at a bar in Osaka. Not from a website. Not from a guidebook. From a person who'd been to the same place and genuinely wanted my trip to be as good as theirs."

The Community

Meet the people who
build your itinerary.

Every YourTravelSearches itinerary is shaped by real people who have been to your destination — some as local guides born there, others as long-term residents, photographers, or travelers who visited so many times they've become experts. Here's who they are.

Kyoto Japan
Japan Specialist · Kyoto
KS

Kei Suzuki

Dutch-Japanese · 9 years in Kyoto

"I moved to Kyoto from Amsterdam in 2015 for a ceramics apprenticeship and never left. I know which bamboo grove is empty on Tuesday mornings, the ryokan that takes guests by referral only, and exactly when the autumn light at Arashiyama is worth setting an alarm for."

Portugal Douro
Portugal Specialist · Douro Valley
MC

Maria Costa

Portuguese · Born in Vila Nova de Gaia

"My family has grown grapes in the Douro for four generations. I know the quintas that take private guests, the village restaurants where you eat at 2pm with the farmers, and the viewpoints that aren't on any map. Portugal is not just Lisbon. It's time people discovered why."

Wine Routes Hidden Villages Local Gastronomy
Peru Andes
Peru Specialist · Cusco Region
AR

Alejandro Rios

Peruvian · Trek guide since 2011

"I have guided 300+ treks through the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. I know the entry time that gives you the site with fewer than 30 people. I know which alternative paths show you what the Inca actually built, not just the postcard view. I know Peru the way a traveler never can from a tour bus."

The Process

From your first answer
to your perfect itinerary.

Here's exactly what happens after you answer 6 questions — and why what you receive is genuinely different from anything you've used before.

4
5
1 Step 1 — You Answer 6 Questions

Tell us who you are and where you're going

Six targeted questions — your destination, how many days you have (7, 14 or 21), your travel style, your budget, when you're going, and who you're travelling with. These aren't generic filters. They're the information our specialists need to match you with the right community knowledge.

Where are you going? How many days? Your travel style Your budget When are you travelling? Who are you with?

Why each question matters

Travel style determines which version of a destination you get — beach, culture, food, outdoor, luxury, or urban.
When you're going determines timing and crowd recommendations from our local guides.
Budget shapes which accommodation and activity tier our specialists recommend for you.
2 Step 2 — Community Knowledge Is Matched

Our specialists find what fits exactly your profile

Your answers are matched against the collective knowledge of our 800+ community members for your destination. The outdoor traveler going to Japan in March gets completely different knowledge than the luxury couple going in November — because our guides have contributed specific, contextual insight for each combination.

This isn't a keyword match. It's a genuine curation process — pulling the community knowledge that is specifically relevant to who you are and when you're going.

Example

You select Japan · 14 days · Culture & History · Comfort · March · Couple. Our specialists match you with Kei's knowledge of Kyoto in late cherry blossom season — including which temples are still quiet after the peak crowds leave, and the ryokan that has garden views worth booking two months in advance.

3 Step 3 — Editorial Structuring

Our travel editors build it into a coherent journey

Community knowledge is rich but unstructured. Our editorial team — each one a travel specialist in their region — takes the matched insights and builds them into a logical, well-paced day-by-day route. They know how to sequence a destination so each day flows naturally into the next, without backtracking or overwhelming you.

They also know what to leave out. An itinerary that tries to include everything is worse than one that chooses the best and breathes around it.

What our editors add

Logical day sequencing with realistic travel times
Morning / afternoon / evening pacing that doesn't exhaust you
Contingency options for weather or closures
Rest days and slow mornings built into longer trips
4 Step 4 — Local Verification

A local confirms every detail is still accurate

Before your itinerary is finalised, it's reviewed by a local specialist who currently lives in or regularly visits the destination. They check that the restaurant is still open, the hotel still meets our standards, the activity is still running — and that the timing recommendations still hold.

This is the step that no travel blog, no booking platform, and no generic guide service can replicate. Communities change. We change with them.

Our update cycle

Every 18 months maximum

No recommendation stays live longer than 18 months without re-verification

Quarterly destination audits

Full review of all active destinations four times per year

Traveler feedback integration

Returns and reviews from past travelers feed directly back into the quality check

5 Step 5 — Accommodation & Activities Curated

Every hotel, stay, and experience selected for your profile

Your budget, travel style, and location preferences determine which accommodation and activity options appear in your itinerary. Our specialists don't recommend the most popular option — they recommend the most appropriate one for exactly who you are.

Accommodations

Budget-matched, location-optimised. From boutique guesthouses to design hotels and luxury resorts — always the most right choice, not the most expensive.

Activities & Experiences

Style-matched tours, guided experiences, and self-guided routes — curated for your travel personality, timed for when they're best.

Your Itinerary — Ready

A complete, day-by-day plan built by people who've been there

What you receive isn't a template. It's a fully structured, day-by-day journey with accommodation recommendations, activity suggestions, local dining picks, and precise timing guidance — all built from the collective wisdom of our community specialists.

What This Looks Like in Practice

Generic guide vs.
YourTravelSearches community knowledge.

The difference isn't just what you visit — it's how you visit, when you go, and what you find when you get there. Here's what that looks like across three destinations.

Fushimi Inari Kyoto
Fushimi Inari, Kyoto · Japan
Generic guide says

Visit Fushimi Inari

"One of Japan's most iconic sites. The thousands of orange torii gates are unmissable. Plan 2–3 hours to explore the full trail." — Every travel blog since 2015

Kei's knowledge says

Go Tuesday, 6:15am, in November

"The gate path is genuinely empty before 8am on weekdays outside August. In November the morning mist sits in the valley below. Bring your own onigiri from the convenience store 200m from the entrance — the food stalls don't open until 9am."

Douro Valley Portugal
Douro Valley · Portugal
Generic guide says

Lisbon, Porto, Sintra — done

"Spend 3 days in Lisbon, 2 in Porto, day trip to Sintra. Portugal in 7 days." Standard. Everywhere. Repeated without question across thousands of travel sites.

Maria's knowledge says

The route nobody publishes

"Drive the Côa Valley — ancient rock carvings, no tourists. Stay at Quinta do Vallado: a working winery that takes 12 guests, serves dinner by candlelight, and charges half what a Lisbon hotel does. The wine they serve isn't on any menu. You have to stay to drink it."

Machu Picchu Peru
Machu Picchu · Peru
Generic guide says

Take the train, join the crowd

"Arrive by 10am to beat the heat. Purchase tickets in advance. The Inca Trail is popular — book months ahead." No mention of when the 5,000 daily visitors arrive. No mention of what you can do instead.

Alejandro's knowledge says

5:50am entry on a weekday in June

"The first entry at 5:50am gives you the site with fewer than 30 people for the first 40 minutes. The mist hasn't lifted. The light is extraordinary. By 7:30am the tour groups start. You can leave before they arrive and have breakfast in Aguas Calientes with everything already done."

Our Standards

Good enough
is not good enough.

Every recommendation in every YourTravelSearches itinerary passes five non-negotiable standards before it reaches you. This is the promise our community makes to every traveler.

Visited within 18 months

No recommendation stays live longer than 18 months without being re-visited and re-verified by a community member. Places change. Our knowledge doesn't get stale.

Corroborated by multiple sources

A single recommendation, no matter how enthusiastic, requires confirmation from at least two independent community members before it appears in any itinerary.

Zero paid placements — ever

Hotels and activity providers cannot pay to appear in YourTravelSearches itineraries. We do not accept sponsorships, partnerships, or commissions that influence which recommendations you receive. Every listing is earned by quality.

Quarterly destination audits

Every four months, we conduct a full review of each active destination. Recommendations that no longer meet our standards are removed immediately — regardless of how well they've been received.

Traveler feedback feeds directly back in

When travelers return and rate their experience, that feedback is reviewed by our editorial team. A restaurant that disappoints three travelers is removed — not hidden, not excused, removed.
